Spanish food due for class tomorrow and I need help!?!
Answers: So my teacher assigned each student to bring in any kind of spanish food to class tomorrow. I don't want anything really dull like cheating and buying cheap salsa and chips, but I don't want to spend my whole day tomorrow committing to really difficult food to cook. I was actually searching for some sort of a simple spanish appetizer recipe, something that I won't have to stress and slave over. I hope I get some really good recipes or links. You help is appreciated!
Buy the chips and make some homemade pico de gallo. I livein New Mexico and this is something I love to make and super easy. You will need:
8-10 Tomatoes (whatever is ripe or cheapest..romas?)
2 or 3 Limes
Garlic (raw or garlic powder)
2 or 3 Jalapenos
1 bunch Cilantro
If you have a food processer at home you would:
Cut tomatos in half and process them. You may have to do a couple batches if your processer is small. Once tomatoes are chopped up (you can use the pulse button or you can just run it until they are chopped into small pieces) dump them into a bowl. Then, use the juice of 2 or 3 limes, an entire bunch of cilantro, about a quarter of an onion, one or two or three jalapeno peppers depending on how hot you want it, and a couple cloves of fresh garlic or use a couple teaspoons of garlic powder. Pulse all this stuff together and then add to the tomatoes in the bowl and stir everything together. Add salt to taste. The longer this sits in the fridge, the better it gets.
If you don't have a food processer you could dice up the tomatoes and use a blender to blend the other stuff. Or, if you have nothing you can just use a knife and chop everything up really small. I promise you'll love this, and so will everyone in your class. :)
Here's a link for tapas recipes. Some of them might be a little more than you want to take on for a class, but you get the idea.
go to google and look up soparillas
they are so good and very spanish
i did it for a prject in spanish once and they came out really really good
try tamales or pozole they are traditional apanish foods also if its just an easy plate try the quesadillas they are flour tortillas with melted cheese inside and you can add beef or chicken whatever you may like im telling you from a true mexican-american
try quesadillas. flour tortillas, cheese. microwave. grab 1 tortilla, put some yellow cheese, another tortilla on top. put in microwave for 2 minutes or in pan with a little butter until golden.
take some Spanish rice or burritos...real easy to fix.
for Spanish rice, put a little oil in pan, get hot, put the rice in and let it warm up, add a cup of water, diced onion, bell pepper and seasoning, let it reach to a boil, turn down to medium and cover for about 15 to 20 minutes. turn off and add some salsa. you are ready to take to class... or get some re fried beans [canned]] flower tortilla's .....for each burrito, put some re fried beans, minced onions, shredded cheese and some salsa, roll them up and you are done....
Gazpacho is a cold, Spanish soup, and it's very easy to make - and delicious, too!
1 cucumber, halved and seeded, but not peeled
2 red bell peppers, cored and seeded
4 plum tomatoes
1 red onion
3 garlic cloves, minced
23 ounces tomato juice (3 cups)
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1/4 cup good olive oil
1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
1 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
Roughly chop the cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes, and red onions into 1-inch cubes. Put each vegetable separately into a food processor fitted with a steel blade and pulse until it is coarsely chopped. Do not overprocess!
After each vegetable is processed, combine them in a large bowl and add the garlic, tomato juice, vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well and chill before serving. The longer gazpacho sits, the more the flavors develop.
I hope that helps! Good Luck!

Spanish as in Spain like "Santiago Cake " Delicious and easy to make I have a few links for you. I made it before, was really good and so simple. after baked/cooled you cut out a stencil of a cross and sift powdered 10x sugar over the cake leaving a tan cross in center of cake. Can even give your teacher the history behind the dessert too. AKA Saint James Cake.

im not sure of the spelling
but sopapeas
one of my favorite quick foods is
chila quilas it's really easy and takes about 15 min or less to prepair
you will need of course a bounch of corn tortillas(+-20)
cut or torn in squraes about "2inches
then a +-15oz can of enchilada sauce, red is my favorite
("El Pato" is a good brand) if your feeling frisky you can make a salsa.
Then about 4 or 5 eggs
electric skillet works best-for me
first start by frying the tortillas in oil (not deep fry a few tbl spoons)
then add salsa about 1/2 of the can stir for a min then add the eggs to tortilla and salsa. When eggs are done turn off heat grate cheese over top (be generous).
you can use the rest of can to pour over top as need for your liking. goes great w/ sour cream .... Enjoi!
easiest, and most culturally correct appetizer ever:
Tortilla Espanola
((served all over spain, w/ slight variations with each region))
very easy to make. i made this for a spanish class project a couple years ago. the ingredients are very basic, so everyone will like it!
3 eggs
Salt, ((as needed))
3 or 4 tablespoons olive oil
3 large potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
1 onion, finely chopped
beat eggs in bowl and add salt (only a little!)
Heat some oil in a frying pan
Add the potato and fry for a couple of minutes. Add the onion
When the potato starts to brown a little on the edges add the eggs. Make sure the potato and onions are fully submerged by the eggs. Poke the potato to allow some of the egg to seep in. (the egg holds everything together!)
Fry this gently on a low heat. While cooking shake the pan to loosen the tortilla from the base round out edges. The egg will start setting, as this happens place a large plate over the pan, flip the tortilla over onto the plate and slide back into the pan to cook the underside.
once firm (2 minutes or a little less) slide tortilla back onto plate
can be served hot or room temp.
