Left out large pot of fresh homemade chicken soup overnight?!
As I cleaned the kitchen the only thing I asked my 17 year old son to do was put the soup in the garage fridge....as I sip my coffee this morning, the soup is still on the stove.
That makes 7 ish hours. The house was about 59 degreees last night (hey I live in Buffalo!). I immediately brought the soup to a boil and let it go a few minutes.
Is this safe? Mom's don't make homemade chicken noodle soup to poision their family---at least I don't.
Thinking of having 17 eat it and see how he does...(kidding!)
What's the thought here? If it's not safe I will pitch it (and complain bitterly once he gets up). Not enough shopping and cooking days till Christmas for husband, myself, 8 year old daughter and forgetful son to be buckled over.
Thanks for your help! Happy Holidays!
Answers: Yesterday in the midst of all the spritz cookies, candies and other holiday preparations I made a large pot of fresh homemade chicken noodle soup, with carrots, celery, onion, and two kinds of noodles.

As long as it was covered and the house was as cold as you say it should be fine. I once left Chinese food out all day in a cold kitchen heated it up for dinner and I was fine. Boiling the soup should kill any bacteria. Enjoy your soup(now I want to make some myself!) and happy holidays!
If you cooked the soup well and it was very hot with the top of the pot intact it is probably ok. The heat would have kept the soup safe and sanitary.
?
golden rule when in doubt, throw it out
Totally safe. Not to worry. Eat up!
wow the "Chicken Police" would have all of you in jail...No don't eat anything that has been left out for more than 2 hours, unless it still at a steaming hot temprature, still on stove cooking, I don't think that re boiling it will make it safe. Not to my recelection anyway
for me i will try to taste the soup first if it's ok but of it is sour I will throw it away.
I think it should be fine. I always leave soups out overnight and eat them the next day, and the day after, although mine are always vegetarian. My parents make meat soups and just leave them on the stove overnight. I think since you boiled it, you've got nothing to worry about, however if you just don't want to risk it, you could freeze it and have it another time. Freezing will kill bacteria in a similar way that cooking does.
Better toss that soup!
Safe for drinking... Pour some & pass it to your neighbours too!
If this happened in a hotel restaurant kitchen, they would definitely throw it away. If it was at my house, I would probably eat it. Technically you're not supposed to let it stay between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit for longer than 4 hours, but your family will probably not get sick from eating it. However, there is the slight chance that it could happen, so that's your judgment call. I say it's a horrible thing to waste mom's chicken soup.
From my food safety training 1 months ago, if anything left out in Temperature Danger Zone (5 C - 60 C) for more than 4 hours, you need to throw it out. There could be bacteria enough to make you sick even though the soup taste normal. But of course, it all depends on how strong each of your family member is.. some people might be fine, some might... Better safe than sorry. :)
This is simple.
THROW IT OUT!
Don't taste it. Don't do anything but throw it out.
I would want to throw it out, but I would be really irritated at having to do so, so I would probably try it once and see if there are any adverse reactions.
