Here's a recipe for Christmas sugar cookies and also the frosting. It's easy to make. These are the thick type sugar cookies like at Wal-Mart or Food Lion - very good for decorating. If you want a thinner and crisper sugar cookie, this is not the right recipe though.

the easiest way would be to buy the betty crocker sugar cookie dough. it's kind of cheating but they turn out really good and r easy to decorate.

idkk...maybe buy them

INGREDIENTS
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

my grandmother was a baker for 15 years and she has her own cook book. everyone loved her sugar cookies. her secret into making them so good is the powered sugar!

1 cup powered sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 cup crisco
1 cup butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups flour

Mix and keep in refigerator overnight or let cool in frezzer for about one hour. When rolling out use, 1/2 cup powered sugar and 1 cup flour as a mixture to roll cookies in. Cut into shapes and bake at 350 for 8 minutes. Do not over-bake. Makes approximately 50 cut out cookies.

Sugar cookie icing:
4 tbsp shortening
1 lb powered sugar
1/4 cup water
1/8 tsp butter rum extract
1/8 tsp vanilla
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pineapple extract

Combine all ingredients and mix five minutes on high speed. Separate into several bowls and add food coloring to each. Decorate sugar cookies using sprinkles on the bells and red hots on the wreaths at Christmas time.
