For ppl who put cheese slices on apple pie....can you explain why?!
Answers: How does this improve flavor for you. Everytime I see someone do it - I get confused.
You can't use just any old cheese, you need really good quality cheddar. The flavor of the sharp cheese with the tartness of the apples and sweetness of filling is great. They compliment each other.
Eww..Thats jus gross.....
It gives it that not so sweet taste, but something different also. It's just GOOD!
nfd?
OMG. People do that?????? Sorry, not an answer. But seriously, people do that?
I have no clue!! I prefer mine with a huge blob of vanilla ice cream.
This is so funny! We just had this discussion this morning.
YUM! A good slice of cheddar on warm apple pie! YUM!
A friend of mine uses sliced American cheese, my son in law says don't put cheese near his apple pie - only ice cream. But yes a strong yummy hunk of cheddar on a hot slice - it gets warm but doesn't melt - must be a tart apple pie, not an overly sweet one.
What a combo!
Luckily, I believe, it is "outside the norm".....not something that the regular Apple pie lover puts on their pie...usually we leave that to Ice Cream, however, at one time in history, someone started the trend and it stuck, mostly for the same reasons that the others gave...that the flavor compliments each other, and when you think of it...I bet you can name quite a few other weird combinations of different foods that you would never imagine going together....but people enjoy just the same. That is what makes us so unique...we eat weird food!
It's done for the same reason people in Europe eat cheeses with a fruit plate--the flavors play nicely off one another and the fruit seems to intensify the cheese tastes.
YUCK!!! why? why?why?=O
I understand, I have an aunt who puts jam on her pound cake, as if it isn't sweet enough. Its an old tradition to have cheddar cheese. It takes all kinds. Enjoy your own combination
I watch the show "Pushing Daisies" and Chuck (the girl...don't ask) puts cheese on the pies she bakes. She seems to use a guyere (or some such) on apple pie.
I think it looks good.
