you peel a sweede, chop and then steam it
What?!
Suede... Isn't that something they make shoes out of??
Swede? Suede is something completely different.
Same as potatoes
peel skin off, cut into slices, steam and mash,
To prepare swede: all you need is a potato peeler to peel it in precisely the same way as a potato, slicing off the root end first with a knife. Then just cut the swede into suitably sized chunks.
To cook swede, cut it into 1 inch (2.5 cm) dice and steam for about 10 minutes, or until tender, then whiz to a purée in a food processor, or mash with a fork, adding a knob of butter, salt and lots of freshly milled black pepper. This method also works very well using half swede and half carrot but, in this case, I like it chopped small rather than puréed.
For roast swede, cut the chunks larger – 1? inches (4 cm) – place the cubes in a bowl, adding (for 1 lb/450 g) 1 dessertspoon of olive oil and some seasoning. Toss the swede around to get all the pieces coated in the oil, then place them on a baking tray and roast in a pre-heated oven set to gas mark 7, 425°F (220°C) for 30-35 minutes, until the swede is nicely toasted brown at the edges. Serves 4.

To prepare swede, top and tail, then peel; if it is large you may need to take off quite a thick layer to remove the woody skin. Then slice or dice and either boil until tender or blanch then roast in a hot oven (toss in oil then roast at the top of the oven for 40 minutes, turning occasionally. If you are mashing them, add plenty of black pepper and some butter; you can aso try adding a little nutmeg or cinnamon for an unusual flavour.

Didn't Elvis make a record called Blue Swede Shoes?
Surley you mean SWEDE
best way is to peel and dice, season with salt and pepper, drizzle with olive oil, roast until tender, then blend in the food processor until smooth.
Babies usually do not develop a taste for seasonings until about 6 months. so those are optional.
Slice off the skin.
Chop into smallish pieces or slices,
put into a pan of boiling salted water for approx 20 mins.
When softened, mash with a little butter and black pepper if this is what you allow your baby, mine wouldn't eat it without as it is a bit bland.
You can of course steam it, but the water from boiling it makes a great stock for soups or gravy, as does the water from parsnips.
I think you mean swede or turnip where I come from - Peel with a potato peeler cube and either boil or steam. We gave it to our girls when babies and it can be very nice if mixed with carrot or parsnip and mashed [a little milk/butter helps to soften it for babies] - A great idea if you have some left the next day is to baste with a beaten egg, make into patties and fry.........oh they are mmmmmmm'm
You mean swede,I have said before, the spelling from some answerers and questioners you need to go back to school.....Jason W
I presume you mean Swede as suede is like leather, but softer....and not edible!
I would just peel it, chop into small cubes and boil (or steam) for about 20 mins...or until its soft. Much the same as potatoes really. Just check its cooked all the way through before you take it off the heat.
