Does anyone know what Tylose is? Are there Any Substitutions?!

Question: I know that in general, it is for making gumpastes in cake decorating, but I don't know what it looks like, tastes like, is? Can I use anything else? Are there any recipes for homeade gumpaste WITHOUT tylose?

the only suitable substitute would be gum tragacanth, but its usually cultivated from the middle east (where our trade relations are on edge), so good luck finding it in the US
