I put mine in for 14 minutes and it ended up pretty good.

If it says so on the box.....lol

You can, but it can be much more difficult to get the cake to come out right. If the cake is for something special, I'd see if I could use my neighbor's oven (or if you've got a toaster oven, that might be a substitute) Here's a recipe

MOIST CHOCOLATE CAKE IN MICROWAVE OVEN
1/4 c. (1/2 stick butter)
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chocolate syrup
Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and beat until fluffy. Add sifted dry ingredients, vanilla and chocolate syrup. Beat until thoroughly blended. Pour into an 8-inch square or round glass baking dish. Cook, uncovered, 7 minutes in microwave oven.

I make one in the microwave- but you need othose plastic cak pans/cupcake pan. I think I put it in for like 12 minutes or something???http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,mi...

MICROWAVE YELLOW CAKE

1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1/8 tsp. salt
1/3 c. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. milk

Combine flour, baking powder and salt. In a mixer bowl beat butter for 1/2 minute. Add sugar and vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Add egg. Beat until combined. Add flour mixture and milk alternately to beaten mixture, beating well. Pour in greased microwave dish. Cut a piece of waxed paper to fit bottom of pan. Pour cake batter on top of waxed paper.
Cook cake layer uncovered on 50% power for 10 minutes. If not done cook on 100% power for 30 seconds to 20 minutes or until the surface is nearly dry. Cool cake on wire rack for 5 minutes. To loosen, run a narrow metal spatula around dish edges and slightly under waxed paper. COOL!!!!!

They say you can. I tried it once making cupcakes and it was a tried and tested microwave recipe (or so it said). They were awful. The centre of them was like a rock with soft cake only 1/4 inch thick on the outside. They would have made dandy hockey pucks. Never again. I'd buy a cake rather than do it that way if my oven was broken. To be honest I have never known anyone who has has much success baking in a microwave.
