Question: I would like to make an edible centrepiece for the dinner table for christmas day so it becomes a feature and also dessert for after dinner. If anyone has any recipes or ideas i would appreciate them. Thanks

You could make this kind of cake that basically is a bundt cake with a white chocolate and dark chocolate glaze and the center is filled with roses.

Then there is this kinda topiary style one with truffles attached on toothpicks.

Also i make a cream puff tower that is made by dipping the filled cream puff into a hard crack caramel "glue" and building a tower. Later the carmel cools and guests pull the cream puffs off to eat. It is called a croquembouche and it can be made extra fancy by drizzling strings of hot hard crack sugar over it like a web

There are beautiful designs you can do meringue like this cake: http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site... centerpiece&rsc=header_3

Maybe this meringue top combined with a red velvet cake crumb covered base cake? Could be very pretty as tall narrow cakes. You can alway put a glass beaker into a cake with a tall taper light in it. Or do something with flowers.

Could get miniature tinsel christmas trees and hang edible ornaments from them (cookies or truffles on ribbons)

Also have seen a tiered cupcake tree. i suppose you could make it miniature. http://www.flickr.com/photos/expomonster...

And here are cookies on sticks - may give you ideas: http://onlineathens.com/stories/112906/l...

This photo is inspiring - could be made with leaf shaped sugar cookies and almond paste: http://www.flickr.com/photos/20726191@N0...

EDIBLE CHRISTMAS TREE CENTERPIECE

16" styrofoam cone (available at most arts & crafts stores)
5 bunches fresh parsley
Plastic wrap
1/2 lb. med. sized cooked, shelled shrimp
1 dozen cherry tomatoes
Ripe pitted olives
Stuffed green olives
1/2" cubes of assorted cheese
Colored wooden toothpicks
Heavy duty staples

Wash and dry parsley. Using individual heavy duty staples, secure parsley sprigs to styrofoam cone, working around and down to completely cover cone with parsley. Cone should appear to be covered with parsley leaves. (Stems should not show.) This step may be done the day before the party. Cover the green cone with plastic wrap and store in refrigerator.
An hour before the party, "decorate" the tree by securing shrimp, cherry tomatoes, olives and cheese cubes to the cone with toothpicks. A cherry tomato on top of the tree completes the ornaments. Place decorated tree on a pedestal candle stand to serve as a Christmas tree stand or use any approximate base available. As guest discover that the tree is edible, the hostess should redecorate the centerpiece with more garnishes.

My daughter makesa beautiful fruit tray for this purpose, using bright coloured fruits such as pineapple, strawberries, mandarin segments, green & black grapes kiwi fruit & watermelon.

i would use a chocolate fountain just because they are so cool and become the talk of where ever you are using it. you could have fruit to dip into it with skewers or even make a couple of angle food cakes. tint one batch green and the other red and cube it to place around the fountain. YUM!
