Is sour cream the only way to make sugar cookies that STAY soft?!

Question: No.If you only bake them for about 8 minutes or so,they will stay soft. Here is my recipe:
2/3 cup shortening(you can use butter or margarine)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp.vanilla
1 egg
4 tsp. milk
2 c. sifted flour(you don`t have to sift)
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar, and vanilla.Add egg & milk;beat `till light and fluffy.Divide dough in half.Cover and chill at least one hour.
On a lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8 thickness. You may need to work in more flour until it is no longer sticky.I worked in alot of flour and rerolled the dough several times and they still came out soft and good.Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375 8- 10 minutes.(8 for soft cookies.Remember they continue to cook after comeing out of the oven)After they cool, frost or dip in chocolate.Sprinkle with sugar before baking,if desired.Makes about 3 dozen, depending on size of cookie cutter.Cooking time is the same reguardless of size.Enjoy and have a Merry Christmas:o)

I use plain yogurt as it tastes just like sour cream only it is more healthy. You could also opt to cut the salt content and add a package of vanilla pudding to the mix.

Just cook them for 5-10 minutes less time than the recipe calls for.

heres a trick that truly works at keeping cookies soft. Store the cookies in a ziploc bag with a piece of bread. you will have the softest cookies!
