Sugared pecans...HELP!!! ASAP?!
Answers: I have some in the oven and they are real gooey, do I leave them in longer and if so, how long?
Stir them around and check and stir every 4 minutes until they are not so gooey. They will continue to cook a bit after you remove them from the oven so you want them to be a little moist as the moisture will cook off on the stove top while cooling and that way, they won't be really dried and brittle.
yes ten to fifteen more minutes.
They willl be gooey until they have cooled off. If you are concerned that they won't be crunchy when they've cooled, do a water test.
Get a cup of cool water, and drop a couple of the pecans into it. Try them out- if they are crunchy they'll dry/cool ok.
eeeps. take them out and let them cool for a few minutes to see if cooling will harden them. hot sugar IS liquid - so gooey can be okay. just take them out, let them cool, and if they are still gooey, put them on another baking pan and pop them back in.
be careful - hot sugar is an awful burn -
