Do I need to cook the leg of xmas ham that we get from supermarket?Isnt it already cooked?!

Question: Don't feel bad, I too refer to it as a leg of ham(unless it's a shoulder) Depends whether you plan to eat it hot or cold. You don't need to cook it if cold( disregard the talk of bacteria etc, Americans are paranoid about it. Never cooked one yet, never heard of anyone getting food poisoning from ham that is kept in the right conditions. If you need it hot, just follow one of the answers who tell you how to glazeit. That's not my thing.

Read the lable ... it says if its already cooked or not ... It will say FULLY COOKED if it is ..... if not cook it!!

You don't really need to cook it, as it has been preserved and smoked. But cooking it will kill a lot of the bacteria and one-celled mutations which thrive in preserved pork. This is only an extra safety precaution. Generally, it is unlikely you will die from eating too much uncooked ham - especially if it doesn't containt too much flesh eating bacteria.

It depends on whether it is straight from the slaughter house or from a processing company. Almost all have at least been smoked which is not the same. The package will say fully cooked if it is. If already cooked, it can be warmed and the glaze can be added for flavor.

it would say "fully cooked" on it somewhere if it is. You do need to cook it though....thee's this glaze they give you to put on it. It's really good, so I suggest you do it...or you could opt for the Honeybaked Ham and just warm it up.

First of All never heard of a 'leg of ham' but if you bought a ham that was smoked is is not raw. Generally you just have to put it in the oven and bring it up to serving temperature. A smoked ham can be eaten without cooking. If the ham you bought is a 'fresh' ham it is raw and has to be cooked until the internal temperature is about 170 degrees. Personal opion if you like ham smokes is really good. You can make sandwiches, use the bone to make split pea soup or put in beans. Enjoy!!!
