Great tried and true sugar cookie recipe?!
Answers: I need a great sugar cookie recipe. The one I followed wasn't as soft as I would like it (even though I made them thick and took them out when they were set). They didn't taste amazing either. I know sugar cookies are kinda bland, but they can be better than this!
Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies:
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter (softened)
3 oz. cream cheese (softened)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/4 cups flour
Mix all ingredients except flour. Add in flour until well blended. Refrigerate dough for 30 minutes before rolling and cutting.
Note: The dough is very sticky, so put plenty of flour on your rolling surface. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-10 minutes.
Icing:
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 teaspoons milk
4 teaspoons light corn syrup
Food coloring
Mix all ingredients well. This can be applied to cookies with back of spoon or small brush to make a smooth, hardened, glossy finish when dry.
Here's our family sugar cookie recipe. These do rise a bit so are very soft - kind of like the ones at Wal-Mart. We frost ours (recipe included) but you can also sprinkle with sugar. I included all the tips, so these should turn out perfect. My boys love these the best of any sugar cookies we've ever made.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 stick plus 2 tablespoons (10 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Sugar or cinnamon sugar, for dusting (optional)
Whisk the flour, salt and baking powder together.
1. Working with a stand mixer, preferably fitted with a paddle attachment, or with a hand mixer in a large bowl, beat the butter at medium speed for a minute or so, until smooth. Beat in the sugar and continue to beat for about 2 minutes, until the mixture is light and pale. Add the egg and yolk and beat for another minute or two; beat in the vanilla. Reduce the mixer speed to low and steadily add the flour mixture, mixing only until it has been incorporated — because this dough is best when worked least, you might want to stop the mixer before all the flour is thoroughly blended into the dough and finish the job with a rubber spatula. When mixed, the dough will be soft, creamy and malleable.
2. Turn the dough out onto a counter and divide it in half. If you want to make roll-out cookies, shape each half into a disk and wrap in plastic. If you want to make slice-and-bake cookies, shape each half into a chubby sausage (the diameter is up to you — I usually like cookies that are about 2 inches in diameter) and wrap in plastic. Whether you're going to roll or slice the dough, it must be chilled for at least 2 hours.

~~MERRY CHRISTMAS & GOD BLESS!~~
This makes an amazing tasting cookie and I have used this two years in a row. Be very careful with the sour cream and don't use any more, or the dough will be toooooo sticky! The taste is out of this world.
