Does cooking oil go bad?!
Answers: I fried some food about a week ago and kept the oil I used because it was a lot of grease and I didnt cook too much food. I have kept it sealed, but will it be good to use tonight?
It all depends on what you cooked in the oil. Cooking oil picks up the food smells of chicken and fish. If you cooked meat in the oil, you will have to use the oil only for Meats. Fish cooked in oil leaves a fish odor to the oil and if not strained or kept in a cool place the oil can not be used again for fish. You must filter out your oil after you cook in it through a coffee filter or cloth strainer. If you did not do this when you were done cooking, your oil is not usable at this stage. Cooking oil will go bad if not strained and kept in a cool place.
It depends on what you fried. I would not save it if it was chicken. I save oil if I fried vegetables.
Did you filter it before storing? And it should be stored in a cool place - like in a garage/basement. If filtered and stored properly- it will stay good for 6mos.
Yes, cooking oil can be scowled burnt tasting.. It can cause something that could taste fresh, to taste stale.. So oil does go bad, but from actually using it..
