What's the difference between pan searing and frying?!

Question: Pan searing is usually done at high heat and requires little or no oil. Frying is technically to immerse in oil. People sometimes use the term fry to be synonymous with saute (it is not). Fry is to immerse in oil and saute is to cook in a small amount of oil.

Pan sered is when you bring the temp up very high in a pan like a cast iron one. Searing mean sealing in the juices. cook one side until almost crisp them flip it over do the same on the other side. This should only take a few minutes on each side. I usually do the remaining cooking of what ever in the oven at 425 degrees until desired done is acchived.

Fan fried is just that you do all the cooking on the frying pan no oven cooking at all.

Saearing just seals the juices in the meat. It is done quickly at high heat. After searing then broil as usual. Melt in you mouth steak follows when not cooked too long. Med rare is best. Good Luck, Kurt

Pan searing is to one piece of meat, whereas frying can be to a number of foods in differing quantities. Also by saying pan seared on a menu they are able to charge you %200 percent more LOL

Great question though, i'll give you a big juicy star for that!
