Cut out cookies: baking powder vs cream of tartar?!
I suppose I should explain how I made this mistake. I made waffles this morning, so the baking powder was in the front of the cupboard. The kids were in the kitchen whining and I just forgot what I was making for a moment! I didn't realize the mistake until I put the dough in the fridge. I tasted the dough, and it was really bitter. I remembered using the baking powder can but not the cream of tartar bottle. That's how it happened. Now what?
Answers: I accidentally used two teaspoonsful of baking powder instead of cream of tartar in my cut out sugar cookies. The dough is in the fridge now. Is it worth it to bake them up or should I just throw them out? Has anyone ever done this?

They shouldn't be too bad. You might aswell TRY to bake them up.
you can bake them. it shouldn't hurt the recipe
If the dough tastes bitter, so will the cookies. Toss it out and start over. Darn kids eh?
My cutout cookie recipe uses baking powder, not cream of tartar; so they should be okay. Two teaspoons seems like a lot. I guess it depends on how much dough you made.
As I understand it, baking powder is baking soda and cream of tartar together. Shouldn't be to bad.
