Peas in a cottage pie.?!


Question: hi i plan to add some peas for my cottage pie, which is for sunday. I am cooking it on sunday. I am adding carrots into it too. I am wanting to put peas in. Should I use frozen peas? and should i throw them in or let them defrost? and when should i add them to the beef? thanks

I love putting peas in cottage pie. You can just mix them in at the last minute after cooking the beef and other veggies, warm the mixture through if they were frozen, then continue with assembling and baking the "pie".

They really don't explode into mush even if they are cooked longer than you would typically cook them to eat on their own.

You might want to serve them on the side, just to be safe. However, if you do want to mix them in, then I would strongly recommend defrosting them first, draining them, maybe putting them in the microwave for a few minutes (though not necessary), and then mixing them in.

You can add the peas just before you put the pie in the oven. The peas will not explode. It's OK to use frozen peas if fresh peas aren't available. Defrost the frozen pease before you add them to the rest of the ingredients.
