Non-filling appetizers?!
Answers: Help! Having a family Christmas dinner tomorrow (Sat. the 22nd) and need 1 or 2 non-filling appetizer ideas. Finger foods only. Not going to be served at the table, but in a small living room. Controlled but not too complicated or costly. Have someone coming who has a big appetite and doesn't understand the concept of leaving some for everyone else. Thanx
Usually fruit trays and veggie tray do the trick. Or you can do a brie cheese will with crackers and fruit wedges.
ur up fr appetizers rite......peel green papayas n cut into very small cubes. add some chopped onions lotsof grated green chillies, salt to taste. sprinkle sm black peppers if u hv...if u hv cinnamon it does wonders to the food.....i think its more healthy den finger foods.....
I like to make bagel bites with cream cheese.
Buy a variety of bagels or the mini ones. Pull the large ones apart and cut into quarters.
Then use any one of these ideas for the topping.
Blend the cream cheese with garlic powder and cayenne. To this you can top with just about anything, diced tomato, cucumber, olive slices, pepperoni, avocado, etc....
In a food processor you can chop olives and canned mushrooms and fold this in with softened cream cheese, garlic powder and black pepper.
You can always add a veggie dip mix with the cream cheese instead of sour cream. This would be great with cucumbers slices added.
Arrange on a platter with some grapes, and you have a crowd pleaser. Not to mention, they are bite size, so it shouldn't be filling.
Happy Holidays!
i would cut the crust off a loaf of slice bread and roll each piece out flat, butter lightly and push into a patty tin..
then whip up together
-two eggs
-two tablespoons of milk,
-a handful of diced ham or bacon.
-a handful of cheese.
then spoon into each bread cup until all filled
cook in oven for 10 minutes at 190 degrees celcius...
merry christmas..
Boiled shrimp with a store-bought shrimp dip, or a homemade salsa with tortilla chips would be a good choice.
My family will be having Christmas dinner Sunday, the 23rd, and we will have Quesidilla, smoked salmon, chilled whole asparagus, pickled cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, radishes, dill pickles, olives, cheese balls, bar-b-qued chicken wings, an assortment of nuts and chips.
For dinner, we will have turkey, brisket, ham, chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, sweet potatoes, sage dressing, green beans, macaroni and cheese, roasted corn, creamed peas, and Oklahoma Caviar.
Adults will have before and after dinner drinks of Cognac, Bailey's Irish Cream, Crown Royal, and an assortment of imported and domestic beer. Children may choose water, fruit drinks, or the cola of their choice.
for the kids=sweets,cake
for the adults=cake,fruit:D
Vegetables with hummus for dip , instead of a cheese or sour cream based dip . You can buy it already made , or make it yourself . It's easy .
Three cans of chick peas . 3-4 tbs tahini (sesame paste ) , and something to flavor it . ( Red pepper, tomato/basil, garlic &/or herbs , lemon/lemon grass & pepper, etc. )Put it in the blender , occasionally stopping to stir . You can substitute peanut butter & sesame seeds , if you can't find tahini, but it's not quite the same .
Here's one for pine nut/parsley .It's the basic recipe, other than the flavoring . You might find some other ideas on that site .http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/v...

The actual physical act of chewing can tire , & satiate hunger feelings The raw vegetables might slow down your big grazer. ;D
