Whena recipe only calls for "flour" does it mean self rising or all purpose?!
Answers: I have several holiday recipes i am making, one gingerbread men, one a pecan log, etc. I know this is a dumb question - but i dont know the answer.
Always use all purpose unless the recipe specifically says to use self rising.
Um, most of the time it means all purpose. It should say on the recipe.
If it doesn't specify I would use all purpose. Any recipies I have used that call for self rising say self rising on them.
If it doesn't specify, it's usually all-purpose.
Unless self-rising flour (or some other flour is called for by type) you can assume that the recipe is calling for all-purpose flour.
If the recipe calls for soda and salt or one or the other, it means it is calling for all purpose flour. If it does not call for these added ingredients, you will need self rising. It took me a while to learn myself, but it is nice when the recipe specifies which one you need to use. . . .
