Can you cook frozen turkey in the crockpot?!

Question: All the recipes that I've seen for the crockpot calls for thawed meat. I have about a 10 - 12 lb turkey that's frozen. Can I cook it in the crockpot? Anyone has had experience doing this - successfully or disastrously?

No. A crockpot has too low of a power setting and cooks at too low of a temperature to thaw and cook a turkey to the fullest point. It would probably be dried out before it was done. You aren't supposed to cook frozen turkey in any situation, as the outside will start to dry out and burn before the inside is fully defrosted.

No you can't ..If you cook it the outside will be over done and the inside will still be raw.plus turkey doesn't taste the same cooked in water..it will be very tough..better to cook it in the oven..Sorry.

They recommend that you do not cook turkey, frozen or otherwise, in the crockpot because of the potential for salmonella poisoning. The temps in a crockpot are relatively low and the large cavity never gets hot enough to kill the bacteria. You can cook it in the regular oven, however, it will just take about 50% longer than if it were thawed. Have your meat thermometer ready.
