Breadmaker bread too heavy and doughy.?!

Question: I have a new breadmaker and I've made a couple of loaves. The bread tastes alright but it's really heavy and dense. I've never really made bread before and I'm following the manufacturer's recipe exactly. What part of the recipe do I have to adjust? Also, is altitude an issue? I live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta and our altitude is really quite high here.

your answer is to add more liquid. when making the dough, watch the bread dough knead in the bread maker and make some adjustments if necessary. your dough should develop so that it forms a ball that doesn't stick to the sides of the pan, but you shouldn't see any extra flour on the ball of dough. don't go by the bread book exactly. your flour may have more or less moisture in it then they took into account.
also, if you add something wet like applesauce or bananas or honey you will need more flour. it becomes something you learn with experience, but is well worth the effort.don't know how to adjust for the altitude, but if you google the flour company you prefer, i'm sure they can tell you.
don't be afraid to experiment, at the beginning you can always add more flour or liquid as necessary. find out what you like best,
chris

Sounds like more yeast maybe or baking longer
