Have you eaten fresh raw oysters out of the jar?!

Question: vs. shelling them yourself.

Answers: vs. shelling them yourself.

Both ways. Prefer to suck them off the shell. Use the packaged ones for Oyster Stew.

No, I can't say that I have. "Fresh" and "jarred" being an oxymoron and all.

I would rather shell the oyster myself or watch an expert do it at an oyster bar. If you ever have been to an oyster shucking shed in the middle of nowhere, you would agree with me. They have a reason for say check for shell before consuming.
I live right on the gulf. I can go down and catch the oyster boats coming in just about 20 miles from my house. When you get a fresh dug sack of oysters in December after a cold front it is a good thing. We have not had a lot of rain so oyster season is good this year..

We only use the jar oysters for stews or frying. There are several baked recipes:

BAKED SCALLOPED OYSTERS

2 cups cracker crumbs, coarse. Pour 1/2 cup melted butter over the crumbs, toss lightly. Drain 1 pint oysters, save the liquid, spread crumbs in bottom of casserole, layer of oysters, layer of crumbs on the top. Combine oyster liquid with enough milk to make 1 cup. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. Pour over oysters and crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

If they come in a jar, they are'nt fresh oysters!I wouldn't touch any oyster with a 40 ft pole!!!
