I have a 500 lb. Turkey, how long should it cook at 325 degrees?!

Question: I really want this one to turn out well.

Answers: I really want this one to turn out well.

At 325 degrees (preheat your oven first) it should take about 125 hours (5 days, 5 hours) if unstuffed. Stuffed, figure about 8 days16 hours and 25 minutes. (If you stuff it, you wll need approximately 375 cups (not quite 5 of those 5 gallon pails) of stuffing-I don't recommend stuffing it, as the stuffing probably won't reach temp for a few days and a harmful bacteria may find the stuffing an optimal growing medium.)
The turkey will be done when a food thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the inner thigh reaches 180°F and the stuffing is 165°F throughout. Not sure where you'll find a long enough thermometer though.....
The (gallons) of juices should run (flood) clear when the bird is pierced with a fork. A BIG fork.
Let your turkey rest a half-day before carving.
Your turkey should serve approxmately 330 people.

You sure it's not an ostrich?

maybe put it in a kiln.

LOL. I hear you all these dumb turkey questions. Just Put the thing in the oven and open it up when you no longer hear it gobbling.

stop it...how many times have i told you that you can't roast your husband for holiday dinner...you dang near ruined the electric rotisserie on the backyard grill the last time you tried, and he weighed a LOT less then!!!!!!!

lmao im sorry i have no clue how to cook meat and id rather not touch it.....but 500LB WOW thats one huge bird!! I wish you all the luck in the world cooking that one!! hehe\
Merry Christmas

3 WEEKS AND TWO DAYS AND SIX HOURS

About 8,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 minutes.
Don't overcook it!!!!!

250 Hours plus a few hours for resting.

I would suggest not eating it. To get a turkey to 500 lbs, a mad scientist must have done some crazy things to that bird...

Lol, I hope you started cooking it last week or so.
Question: What kind of stuffing are you using?

My mother in law weighs about that much.

Preheat the oven first at 325. Rub with oil to prevent over-drying. Insert meat thermometer into the lower part of the thigh muscle (but not touching bone). When it is 2/3 done, put light foil over the breast & drumsticks. Thermometer should read 185 degrees, and juices should run clear, not pink, when done. This is for unstuffed turkey. I think for 500 pounds, this may take a day or 2, so start now!!

Lady, if indeed you do have a 500lb turkey I would call the National Guard !!

Extrapolating from the timetable below...using a linear regression:

It would appear that you should cook the turkey for approximately 74 hours or just over 3 days. I used regress inside excel to come up with this estimate. Happy cooking!

Timetables for Turkey Roasting
(325 °F oven temperature)

Use the timetables below to determine how long to cook your turkey. These times are approximate. Always use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of your turkey and stuffing.

Unstuffed Turkey
4 to 8 pounds (breast) 1? to 3? hours
8 to 12 pounds 2? to 3 hours
12 to 14 pounds 3 to 3? hours
14 to 18 pounds 3? to 4? hours
18 to 20 pounds 4? to 4? hours
20 to 24 pounds 4? to 5 hours

Stuffed Turkey
4 to 6 pounds (breast) Not usually applicable
6 to 8 pounds (breast) 2? to 3? hours
8 to 12 pounds 3 to 3? hours
12 to 14 pounds 3? to 4 hours
14 to 18 pounds 4 to 4? hours
18 to 20 pounds 4? to 4? hours
20 to 24 pounds 4? to 5? hours

Not sure what size your turkey really is but you should plan on starting the oven at 500 degrees. Rub the skin of the turkey with melted butter and roast uncovered for the first 30 minutes to brown the skin then put foil over the breast, lower the oven to 325. Plan on 20 minutes per pound. Test with a meat thermometer to 180 degrees. Let rest for 30 minutes before carving. Look at mine on my site. Crispy and delicous! Enjoy!

OOOOHHHHH NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU KILLED BIG BIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
