What is the difference between "Cook and Serve" and "Instant" pudding?!

Question: There must be some difference, as I'm driving my boyfriend to absolute misery going to different stores looking for what appears to be an extinct variety. Please tell me his suffering is not in vain!

Instant pudding has a gelatin in it that is activated by agitation, like a mixer or a shaker. Cook and serve pudding has a thickener similar to corn starch or dehydrated eggs that must be heated to be activated

Cook and Serve - you cook it

Instant - you don't cook it

Jaide says it all .......

self explanatory. cook and serve cooks on the stove to boil and then cool it to eat.
instant pudding is out of the box, beaten with milk like it says on the box, and chilled till thickened.
cook and serve pudding can also be made from scratch, and there are recipes for many other flavors than you can get in the store.

Cook and Serve is the one that is cooked. It takes longer and is more trouble to make but it tastes better.

Instant pudding just needs to be chilled.

about 10 minutes

Cook and serve is the old school, heat the milk on the stove add the pudding and cook....Instant is cold milk and whip away more or less, then put in fridge to chill up

"Instant", unlike "cook and serve", requires no cooking.

Just follow the directions on the box. Be happy with what ever your boyfriend finds and eat it. Or your boyfriend might get mad and make you listen to the GAP ad. LOL

Cook and Serve puddings are normally used in cream pies so you can top with meringue and slightly brown in the oven.
Instant puddings are used in cold pudding recipes.
