How can you make lard or peanut oil?!
And it says that I have to use peanut oil or lard for dressing on it, and I happen to not have either. And the instructions says that all other oils smoke easily.
Is shortening, lard? Will shortening smoke easily?
Answers: I bought this expensive steel cake pan in the shape of a snowman, and I can't return it.

Shortening is hydrogenated vegetable oil. Its smoke point is far lower than that of peanut oil, but its better than nothing at all if its all that you have. Go to this cooking-oil smoke point chart:

What it needs is a type of oil that can stand high temps. Vegetable oil should be okay with that. It has a high temp range for cooking. Shortening is lard
Shortening is vegetable fat; lard is animal fat. Other oils do smoke easily, but it seems absurd that you can't just use a vegetable spray if it's just a cake. The temperature to bake a cake is not going to make regular vegetable oil smoke.
Try canola oil, safflower oil, or if you have something like Crisco, Mazola, Wesson, use that.
Lard is rendered pork fat, and leafed lard is a fat that comes from around the pigs kidneys.
Shortening is not lard, it is made from vegetables and lard is made from animal fat. I think as long as your pan is well greased and maybe dusted with flour that you shouldn't have any problems. Most pans are non-stick now so don't worry.
crazy??
what is the question.?
Yes you can make lard but why it is in the store,,,
again peanut oil the same,,,
as for such a senseless instruction and nonsense smoke whatever..?!?!?
the pan in the oven with cake mix will never reach any smoking temperature. and you have to totally neglect your cake ..to burn it
Crisco and butter,, margarine all fine to use
Think spray Pam and the others..
Will it smoke Yes but why push being silly it may discolor the pan..
In such a fancy shape be sure to dust your greased pan to help it release without breaking apart..
