I'm baking oatmeal cookies and the recipe calls for 1/2 a pound of margerine & I only have a tub of butter!!

Question: What do I do??

Answers: What do I do??

A half pound is the same as one cup.

Look up a conversion table and substitute!

1/2 lb= 8 ounces= 1cup... how large is the tub of butter?

Oatmeal cookie recipes typically use shortening, which is basically vegetable oil based. Your recipe calls for margarine, which is also vegetable oil or another type of similar non animal fat oil based. These ingredients will make cookies softer and chewier. Butter doesn't have the same properties as margarine or shortening; you could still use the same amount of butter as a subsitute, and it will probably just make your cookies crispy and crunchy.
