Brining a half Turkey, how long to cook?!

Question: Hi,

I bought a half or a turkey (10lbs) and want to brine it and roast it. What kind of solution would I use for a half turkey so it doesn't get too salty and how long to I soak it for?

How long does a 10 lbs half turkey take to cook? At what temp?

I really need some help- Thanks

the brine should be salty but not too salty. About quarter cup salt per liter of water. Add a bay leaf and a chopped onion too. Needs to brine for at least 4 hours. Cook on 400 f for 15 minutes to blown skin. Have it rubed in oil and a dry rub of your choice. If not, just salt and pepper will do. Turn down to 325 f for about 1.5 hours while basting every 15 minutes. Temp the breast at 165f or the dark meat at 170f. Rest for 30 minutes and remove from the pan. No thermometer? When the juice runs clear from the meat, it is done. Rest for 30 minutes.
Good luck

2 1/2 hours, 15 minutes per pound

I don't know what brining a turkey is, but it should only take about 2-2 1/2 hours in a 325 degree oven to cook it. Put in a meat thermometer to keep an eye on it.

For every 4 pounds in weight you need...

1/2 cup of salt
1/3 cup of sugar
1 gallon of water

Submerge turkey in brine for at least 6 hours but no more than 24 hours.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees, when ovens at 400 degrees, put turkey in oven and reduce temp to 325.

Cook a 10 pound turkey at 325 degrees for about 3 hours.
