I want to make this tiramisu bowl from kraft foods. I need help with what the recipe means.?!
My questions are: what does cool whip whipped topping, thawed, divided mean? (how do you divide cool whip?)
what does coffee, cooled, divided mean? (do you pour liquid into the bowl? how do you divide it?)
what does chocolate, coarsely grated mean? (I have a grater but what is coarsely grated?)
Answers: Here is the website. http://www.kraftfoods.com/CoolWhip/main....

It is a bit of a strange way to write a recipe. But it's a bit clearer when you read down the instructions.
Topping divided, means you take 2 cups of the topping and use it first (where it says stir in 2 cups), and the rest is used at the end when you are finishing it off, on top of the tiramisu
The coffee is used in two equal parts, so you make a half cup altogether, use half of it (ie. a quarter cup) on the first layer of wafers, and the other quarter cup on the second layer.
For the chocolate, if your grater has several sizes of holes, use the largest.
Hope this helps
Without seeing the whole recipe I am unsure, but
the coffee could mean you use coffee 2x in the recipe, so you divide the whole amount
And coursely grate means not baby fine, but not big hunks
dividied means you use only some of the total ingredient at various parts of the building process. For example, it says to use 2 cups of the Cool Whip in making the first step.
Cooled and thawed mean just what they say. You don't wnat to pur HOT coffee in.
Usually when it says divided it is telling you that you will use that ingredient twice.
In the recipe instructions it will tell you how to divide it and when.
It will say:
1 cup of sugar divided.
In instruction it will say
use 1/4 cup of the sugar.
then later it will say
use 3/4 cup of the sugar.
coffee:
2 tbsp coffee divided.
it will tell you to use maybe 1 tbsp in one part and the other at the end.
As Aprilric says, about the coffee, you probably need to use the total amount of Cool Whip called for in two parts. So thaw it, divide it into two (or however many) parts (just put half in a bowl, and keep the other half in the Cool Whip bowl) and add one part whenever called for.
Divided means Halfed....take half of the Cool Whip, and use it, and keep the second half for whatever else it's called for in the recipe, same for the coffee, cool it, and pour it into two cups, divided.
Coarsly grated, you can do that with a knife.....chop it into the smallest pieces possible, without making them too small, about bread crumb size should be good!
Good Luck
Don't make that! It looks freakin gross.
Enjoy your fake food, Rachel Ray.
They are giving you the total amount of cool whip and coffee that you will need. As you read the directions, you'll see that you use part of it at one stage and part at another.
When you grate the chocolate, use the side that will give you the largest pieces after being grated....the third largest part of the grater....hope that helps.
