I have a packet of yeast that expired two months ago. Will it still work?!

Question: It hasn't been refridgerated or anything, just sitting in the cabinet.

Answers: It hasn't been refridgerated or anything, just sitting in the cabinet.

Use part of the liquid in whatever recipe you are making to "proof" the yeast. If the yeast starts to bubble, it's still active. Warm liquid will help this process go faster--but not too warm. Yeast dies at 120F.

Even yeast that has not reached its expiration date can go bad if it is exposed to light or water (this activates the yeast and it tries to eat itself)

probably no...i have made that mistake a few times...its best to buy more...=)

Yes, that is just a basic timeframe....as long as it is not three years or something....but then again, it will probably still work even then!

try putting a little in some warm water with sugar if it froths its still active

No this yeast is non workable, wont make your cake or other desserts rise, i would toss it out, and buy a new yeast.

I have used outdated yeast and it was a complete flop. But someone told me if you keep it in the refrigerator it will last a long time. I bought a large package of yeast and it has been in the refrig for 3-4 years and it is still good; but I do use a few more grains then a did previously - but it is still OK.
