Can you substitute sweetened condensed milk for evaporated milk and sugar in a fudge recipe?!
Answers: Can you substitute sweetened condensed milk for evaporated milk and sugar in a fudge recipe? It calls for 1 1/2 cups sugar and 2/3 cup of evaporated milk. Can I just use sweetened condensed milk instead?
nope, doesn't work when sweet condenced is heated it turns to Carmel
honestly fudge is very difficult to make because it is so temperamental when setting up. I would stick with the recipe.
3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 14 oz can SWEETENED condenensed milk (NOT evaporated)
dash salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Over low heat, melt choc., sweetened milk, and salt. Remove from heat, stir in walnuts and vanilla.
Pour into and 8 or 9 inch foil-lined square pan, cool for about 2 hrs. Turn onto a cutting board, peel off the foil, and cut into little squares.
Rather than trying to work it into your recipe ,I think you should use one designed for sweetened condensed milk, this is one I used a few days ago ,its super easy and turned out good.good luck.

UNsweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk are the same thing. But your sweetened condensed milk already has sugar in it. You *might* be able to substitute the sweetened condensed milk (2/3 cup) and OMIT the sugar.
Sorry, I can't guarantee the results (!!). Got another recipe that calls for sweetened condensed milk??
