How would you pronounce the cheese name 'Gouda'?!

Question: My in-laws are saying "howda," as in, "How da heck do you say the name of this cheese?" We think that is nuts, since all we've ever heard is "Goo-duh." As in, "This melted cheese sure makes a sticky goo, duh!" If you give feedback, tell me your qualifications... visited Holland once in eighth grade, dad was Dutch, whatever. Thanks! K

your in laws are pronouncing it the Dutch way, you're pronouncing it the American way.

cut them some slack ... and enjoy the cheese (don't cut the cheese and enjoy the slack ... .) I mean, at least they're not making fun of your coffee, are they? The Dutch love to make fun of the "canal water" we drink for coffee.

It's pronounced Goo-duh. Parents own a Gourmet food/Specialty food store

Goo Duh Or Goo Da

Goo-duh.

Lived in holland for 3 months. the dutch say howda. In the U.S. it is goo-da.

go to http://www.yourdictionary.com/gouda-chee...
and see . it has the pronunciation key . It's a unique cheese.
Plus...people from that live in different locations tend to pronounce things differently .

Hope that helps .

If you are irish and the cheese is smoked :kludda

It's a goo-duh cheese no matter how you say it.

If it's a Good-uh for you, it's uh Good-uh for me!

The Dutch pronounce it "how-da" while most English speakers say "goo-duh."

Since Dutch is a particularly difficult language for English speakers to manage, it is completely OK to say "goo-duh." Unless, of course, you are also willing to try to sound Dutch when you say "Van Gogh." I'm not even going to attempt a phonetic spelling of the Dutch version of that one!

As far as I am concerned, it should be a "You say 'how-da', I say 'goo-duh'...lets call the whole thing off!" ;-)

Cheers!
