Hi all, does anyone have any plain recipes for slow cookers, no fancy ingredients. Can u use raw meat?!

Question: My family do not like spices/herbs/garlic or prepared sauces. I did look at a recipe book in smiths today but most were very fancy. Any plain ideas would be welcome, thanks.

enjoy

you put stewing steak or lamb and some root veggies in raw, add some stock and let it bubble all day. The result? Yummy stew.....

You don't really need recipes but i am sure there are loads on t'internet.

How about an Irish stew...some lamb neck chops, swede, carrots, a little chopped celery, potoatos all chopped into sizeable chunks...a little and salt and pepper and thats it.

you can do anything you want in it joints of meat are good just put i bit of water in
the same for stews etc the best thing to do is experiment

Busy Day Chicken

PREP TIME 5 Min
COOK TIME 9 Hrs
READY IN 9 Hrs 5 Min

INGREDIENTS
1 (4 pound) whole chicken
355 ml prepared barbecue sauce

DIRECTIONS
Put chicken, legs up, into slow cooker. Pour sauce over and inside the chicken. Cover.
Cook for 8 to 10 hours on low setting. It is not a good idea to check it, as steam escapes and it takes quite awhile to reheat.

I have found many good slow cooker recipes on them for my family.

Use it for doing bolognaise, chilli con carne, beef casserole. Yes raw meat can be used, but its better fried off first - more flavour. go to the money saving site and there is a whole section of recipes in there.

Put in a 2 lb or more cut of pork, onions, garlic, potatoes, carrots, and any other veggies you like. Salt, pepper, a little butter, and some water. Slow cook for several hours.

I have lots of slow cooker recipes. If you want more, contact me.

If possible, you should quick fry the meat until it's just browned. This will "lock in" the flavour.

Pot roast. Just add salt and pepper, and let it cook. The juices when it's done makes super gravy. Just thicken the juice a little. Mashed potatoes are yummy with this.

You know what Chinese cook with slow cooker?
SOUP!!!
Simple...... whole chicken (chopped into 8 or more pieces)
Boil in boiling water for 1 to 2 minute before putting into slow cooker. cover with water ( 8 Chinese bowl of water)
Add in 10 red dates(optional) , cook for 8 hrs, you'll get yummy and most important ....nutritious chicken soup.( discard the meat, nutrients is all in the soup)

everyone keeps saying stew, but you can also make chili, just brown the ground meat, add beans, tomatoes, some spices, and maybe a chili mix, put it on low and leave for work, by the time you get home you will have chili, be sure to add plenty of water. also you could make beans, put them in dry add lots of water, ham and salt, turn them on med and leave. slow cookers are great i love mine. good luck!

these 2 recipes take about 5-6 hours each.

Cut the meat up into sizeable chuncks. Throw in any chopped veg. Dissolve a couple of appropriate stock cubs. Put all into the slow cooker on high and just forget about it. I put mine on before I leave in the morning and when I come home I Serve it with loads of hot crusty bread..and a nice bottle of wine..................Great.

Sounds like my husband. And I use the slow cooker all the time.

Instead of using sauces or spices use broths.
Only season with S&P.
Use the "drippings" to make a simple gravy ( just add cornstarch to thicken).
Yes, you can use raw meat. But if it is a fatty meat (ground hamburger or a fatty beef) it is a good idea to pan fry it first so you can take the grease out first.

The best recipe is to just put four or five boneless skinless chicken breats (raw), potatoes, and any veggies you like (onion, carrot, celery) in with salt and pepper and a can of chicken broth. Make gravy and serve. It is excellent.

I also buy stew meat add potatoes water and a few bouillon cubes (follow directions for quantity) and then cook for 13 hours.

Good Luck, Slow cookers can be a lot of fun.

CROCK POT GOULASH
4-5 potatoes, peeled & chopped in bottom of crock pot
1 med. onion, chopped
1-2 sliced carrots
Corn
Peas
1 lb. hamburger
Salt & pepper
1 can tomato soup
Starting with potatoes layer vegetables in crock pot. (You may use frozen vegetables but you will need to add about 1/2 cup water.) Place raw hamburger on top of vegetables and top with the tomato soup. Cook on high 4-5 hours or low 6-8 hours.

Recipes you already love can be used in the crockpot.

For roasts I like to brown all sides before putting it in the crock. Spaghetti sauces & chili with ground meat should have the meat cooked first or will never get that same texture you're used to, it will also be swimming in fat. For stew, you can brown the meat first (in flour) or just put it in the crock raw and add a rue later.

You can cook whole chickens or chicken pieces. Make soup (your recipes, from scratch...add pasta or rice in the end) Cabbage rolls, apple butter. The possibilities are endless.

For sauces we often just add a can (or two, we have a big crock pot) of cream soup (mushroom, celery, chicken, broccoli) to roasts or chicken, add veggies, not cut too small, and in 6-8 hours you have yourself a meal.

a whole 5# cut-up chicken ,water. cook about 4 hours add large pieces of veggies of your choice when veggies are ready add noodles of you choice , egg noodles are an example or even rice .

There are wonderful cook books specifically for slow cookers so you might want to pick up one of those.

But until you can get to the library...

Chili - Put two cans of kidney beans (we use one dark/one light), 2 cans of chopped tomatoes, 1 can of corn and 1 lb. of
browned ground beef or ground turkey into the slow cooker. Add whatever flavor you like - salt and pepper is good. To cut the acidity of the tomatoes, add 1 - 2 Tablespoons of sugar as well. Then allow to cook all day.

Pot Roast - Put in raw roast - beef or pork (you may also wish to brown it in a pan first - to sear in the juices) and add hard veggies you like. Carrots, celery and potatoes are favorites, but use red or gold potatoes. Idahos tend to fall apart. Flavor as you like, add two cups of water or broth and cook all day. (some people like to roll the roast in salt and pepper prior to searing or putting in the slow cooker).

Chicken - Roll a chicken in whatever spices you like. We do salt, pepper, thyme or sometimes curry. Put into the cooker, breast side down. Add veggies you like and season to taste. Add water or chicken broth and cook all day.

Pork Roast - cook as you would the roast, but without the veggies. make sure you add broth or water. Allow to cook all day long with only water and any spices you like. About an hour before serving, add BBQ sauce and you'll have wonderful pork that just falls apart. Serve on buns or with potatoes.

Slow cookers are also great for soups or stews. Just put in water or broth and add whatever meat you like (frozen is fine - you can cut it up before you serve it) along with veggies and rice. Just simmer all day. If you do this, add the noodles about an hour before serving.

Enjoy!

I made this recipe out of my husband begging me to make beef stroganoff for him one night:

Beef Stroganoff

1lb stew meat
salt and pepper
1 can french onion soup
1 can cut up mushrooms (I don't use them since I don't like mushrooms)

Cook all day for about 6-8 hours, then add 4-5 ozs cream cheese to the sauce and let melt, add a spoonful of sour cream as well and it adds some zip to it, serve over egg noodles, Its absolutely easy and delicious.

You can also check out this site

Enjoy! I actually have 2 crockpots since I practically use them everyday.

Another good recipe is this chili:

1lb ground beef
1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can corn, not drained
1 can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 can diced tomatoes, not drained
1 can dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 packet taco seasoning
water if needed

Fry hamburger ahead of time and then mix all together in crockpot and cook for about 2 hours on high and 6 hours on low. Enjoy!

I hope that you will use your slow cooker often. They are a wonderful kitchen appliance. I had an aunt that would put a whole chicken in the crock, and pour BBQ sauce over it, and let it cook for several hours. It is very tender. I also use mine for vegetable soup. I have put a chuck or arm roast in the slow cooker as well. Use Lawry's meat tenderizer, lemon pepper, and garlic powder. Either fork the meat or use a tenderizer tool to work seasonings into meat. I add slices of onion to the bottom of the cooker, then place meat in crock, and add a little water to cover the bottom of crock. Depends on how long you have to cook it, I usually turn the cooker on in the morning on low and let it cook most of the day. Make sure you don't take the lid off during cooking unless you are adding something. The even continuous heat is needed to properly cook foods in the time required. I am sure you can go on line to find easy crock pot recipes as well. As you cook with it, you will find new foods to try in your slow cooker. Happy cooking!

Well all i really make in a slow cooker is either pot roast or chilli. But yes you can put raw meat in a slow cooker cause it will cook while in the slow cooker. But i dont really know about pork though.
