Need help making Biscuits for dinner!?!
Answers: I just burnt a batch of biscuits that come out of a can and now I need to make homemade biscuits but can't find a recipe. I do not have any baking powder which all the recipes I find call for it. I do have milk butter all purpose flour salt water..you know, the basic stuff in the kitchen. Anybody have a recipe using this stuff??? Thanks
2 cup self rising flour
3/4 cup solid shortening
enough buttermilk to make into a dough.
Roll dough out and cut out with a glass.
Grease pan generously bake @ 450 degrees until brown. Usually they will crack on top a little
Make dinner rolls instead. Make bread dough and shape it into rolls and bake them. Shouldn't require baking powder :-)
You can substitute baking powder with the following:
1/4 tsp soda
1/2 tsp of cream of tartar
1/4 tsp cornstarch. This equals one tsp. bkg. pwdr..
If you have baking soda and cream of tartar, you can make your own baking powder. [1 tsp baking soda, 2 tsps cream of tartar]
You could also make a Soda Bread, using the baking soda, Soda bread is very dense. Look up any recipe on the internet using "Irish Soda Bread recipe" for your search.
If you have no baking soda or cream of tartar, why not try making popovers?
1 cup flour
dash of salt
2 large eggs
1-1/4 c. milk
1 tbsp melted butter
12 cup muffin pan, greased
Preheat oven to 425 F. You have to put the pan in a preheated oven.
Whisk milk, butter and eggs together. Add flour and mix until blended. Don't worry if you have a few lumps.
Pour the batter about 2/3 into each cup. If you have empty cups, put water in the empty cups so the pan won't overheat.
Bake 15 mins at 425, then reduce heat to 350 and bake about 10 minutes until popovers are browned. Don't open the oven andpeek or they will fall.
Serve hot.
Good luck.
