Do I need to peel shrimp to make scampi?!
Answers: The shrimp is frozen and deveined. Should I peel it first, or can I leave the peel on? Would the peel affect the flavor at all? Thanks!
The peel would effect the flavor indeed, but in a good way. Now the question of leaving it on I think depends on who you are serving and do they want to peel their shrimp during the meal? It's either them or you. You can cook w/peels and remove when cooked, or simply peel before cooking (which is what I would do just for simplicity and that's traditionally how it's done for scampi). Enjoy your scampi!!!
Yes you should peel the shird and no it does not effect the flavor in any kind of way
Peel it. Leave on the tail shell. You really have a hard time eating the shrimp with the shell on. Leaving the tail on gives you something to grab on to when u eat it.
No, you don't NEED to peel the shrimp, but it makes eating it easier if you don't have to get the sauce all over your hands.
Yes, it should be peeled.
Most people will say peel the shrimp first. I have the opposite opinion. There are two reasons for not pealing the shrimp and two in favor (in my opinion).
In favor of peeling:
This is easier for for your guests to eat. It also leaves you the shrimp shells which are wonderful added to the ingredients when you make fish stock.
In favor of not peeling:
Keeping the shells on protects the flesh while cooking. This results in more succulent cooked shrimp.
Your guests will have to pick up the shrimp to eat them. They will get the sauce all over their fingers. Licking the sauce off of the fingers enhances the flavor and enjoyment of eating the shrimp.
