What is a good cookbook for a beginner?!
Answers: I am 13 years old and i already own cooking basics for dummies and i can make alot of things out of there that taste good. now i want another. It doesnt have to be only american food. Oh and i prefer pictures and a newer book.
The Betty Crocker Good & Easy cookbook is great for beginners (http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crockers-Goo...
The Betty Crocker Big Red Cookbook is also great because it has a lot of extra information about what the cooking terms mean (http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crocker-Cook...
Betty Crocker also has a Kids cookbook - I don't have it - but since all their other cookbooks are good - I would expect that this would be good too! (http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crockers-Kid...
Good luck!

I have the classic Betty Crocker book- they don't have pictures for ever meal but they do have lots, including all the types of meats and cuts. How to cut meat, and they have all kinds of meals, desserts, drinks etc. It has a wide choice of options. I really enjoy it.
My first cookbook was the Better Homes & Gardens Cook Book..I got it for Christmas from an aunt when I was 12 years old....the book has been around since 1930 and has gone thru several 'updates'....most book stores like Barnes & Noble will carry it....can't miss it. It's front cover looks like an old fashioned red & white checkered tablecloth, it's designed as a spiral binder, and has not only great recipes but chapters on basic cooking techniques, a glossary on cooking/baking terminology,conversion/equivalent charts, roasting charts for meats,crock-pot recipes, emergency substitutions.....overall a very complete and easy to use recipe book.Oh, and the recipes are great....I think I paid 39.95 (US dollars),(my original is long gone-used it 'til it fell apart lol) but that might have been a sale price....
......has great pix of most of the recipes.....check it out the next time you're in a book store...and good luck.... I'm a retired professional baker but I'm also a kick-you-know-what cook....not goumet meals just good old fashioned tasty home cookin'......there is such a nurturing satisfaction you get when you place a meal on the table and the crowd is too busy chowing down inbetween ohhs & ahhs to talk lol....and hollering for seconds & thirds!
