Here is my recipe for fried mushrooms. They taste great:

CRISPY FRIED MUSHROOMS

8 oz. whole fresh mushrooms
1/2 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. paprika
Dash pepper
1/2 c. buttermilk
Oil for frying

Mix flour, salt, mustard, paprika and pepper in large bag. Set aside.
Place buttermilk in small bowl. Dip a few mushrooms at a time in buttermilk. Place in bag with flour mixture. Shake to coat. Heat 2 to 3 inches of oil in deep fryer or heavy saucepan to 375 degrees. Fry a few mushrooms at a time, 2 to 3 minutes, or until deep golden brown, turning over several times.

1 (10 1/2 ounce) can beef broth
1/2 cup onions, diced
2 (16 ounce) cans small whole mushrooms, like button mushrooms (plus the juice of one can or jar)
1/3 cup Burgundy wine
Place beef broth in a saucepan and simmer onion for 15 minutes.
Add mushrooms, along with juice from 1 can or jar and wine.
Simmer another 15 minutes.
Serve with steak.

Happy Holidays!!!

They are good, aren't they. I don't have a recipe for Outback's and if you can't find it, Chuckwagon has a batter mix that is really good. You can find the mix in your local market in the flour aisle. We usually use the Onion Ring Mix. Just wash up your mushrooms, coat them with the batter and fry. Simple!

Well, I was never really at an outback steak house, but I did notice you said you're a new cook. I'm a culinary arts student and I have a pair of websites for you if you're looking for recipes:

www.recipesource.com
www.recipezaar.com

when I plan on making something I can usually find it off of one of them sights. Good luck and Happy New Year.
