Nothing. A potato steams inside if you don't poke holes in it. It will not explode or anything. It just makes for a fluffier potato if you don't poke it.

They explode

Wrap them with foil and don't worry about them. If you nuke them, that's another story. You must pierce them then. They take an hour in the oven at 400.

NOthing happens, but if you put the fork in the oven then BOOM!!!!!!!

they will pop but mot a huge mess but they dont go BOOM!!!
they will build up and it will pop

Not a lot will happen. This poking is just to allow the steam to escape. You could cover your dish holding a few potatoes with foil just to keep them safely from bursting open and dirtying the oven.

Nothing. That's a myth. Putting a metal skure through the potato will make it cook faster in the oven.

I'm laughing so hard. I put a potato in the Microwave and forgot to puncture it. Heard this loud "bang" and went to look.. No potato, just mashed potato all over the inside of the microwave. Took me forever to clean it. Take my word for it. DON'T try it.

Nothing would happen, they come out the same.
Remember if you were a potato how would you feel if someone poked you?

Poking the potato is required for the M/W on the high setting..
The gas / electric oven No...It is a very large chamber and heat is from the outside..
M/W boils the water inside making the steam that MIGHT make a mess..

They can pop open but it will not damage the oven. The fork holes just releases the pressure.
