puff pastry MIGHT work, but just go to your freezer section and look near the frozen pie crusts. Note: it may also be spelled FILO. Pepperidge Farm makes some.

you can try puff pastry, its I think, close enough

i would use biscuit dough ( the flaky kind) or even croissant dough, they are all light and flaky

no! phyllo si a very specilized dough that is very thin and dries out very quickly. the theory is that it can be made at home.
phillo dough makes a very thin crunchy crust and cannot be substituted.

no, here not flacky enough

You can buy filo in the refrigerator section, Or make your own. Get on line, allrecipe.com, has all kinds of recipes.

When making Baklava, there is absolutely NO substitute for the Phyllo dough. Take it from someone who has been making traditional Baklava! There may be substitutions when it comes to Baklava, just not with the Phyllo dough. The recipe calls for walnuts (and lots of them) you could use half walnuts and half peanuts. This is done mostly to cut down on cost as walnuts are quite costly to purchase. Another substitution can come about through not using all butter (when buttering leaves), use half butter and half margarine. That is it though. No substitution for the Phyllo though - sorry.

Have you tried every supermarket? Did you look in the frozen section by the frozen ice cream, frozen fruits and cool whips????
