Answers: When using meat thermometer in a turkey where should you place it and at what temperature should it read when done?

you place it in the thigh and it should read 170

Between the thigh and the leg, without it touching bone, is the best place - and 170F is what you're shooting for. You can place it in the breast meat - you want that to reach around 161, but the thigh/leg area is more important, to assure that it's cooked.
Also - Be sure to let the turkey rest before carving it - leave it in the pan or put it on a platter, tent with foil to keep warm, and let it rest about 20 minutes.
I hope that helps! Happy New Year!

Place the thermometer in the thickest part of the bird. The leg thigh area is good please note the breast will cook about 10-15% faster then the breast. you'll be looking for 160 degrees. Iike to pull mine at 155 deg. The laden heat will finish bringing it up to 160 deg. while it rests covered for 20 min.(make sure the dressing in the bird is at least 145 deg)

USDA recommends 165 in the thickest part of the thigh. HOWEVER, the Turkey industry recommends 170 -180 for those people who want a firmer meat.
I suggest piercing the meat in the thigh and watching the juice. It should run clear.
