http://www.allrecipes.com has a really wonderful award winning chocolate chip cookie recipe that is perfectly soft and chewy. It has 2 packages of pudding mix added to the batter and makes a whole lot of cookies. People are always asking for the recipes.

Buy a bag of Toll house chips, and use that recipie. THat's what I do. Adjust the cooking time to make them softer or crisper.

I agree with the first answer. IMHO - The Nestle's Tollhouse cookies are the best!! You can mix and match with this recipe also...ie: I add half milk chocolate and half dark chocolate chips, or half milk chocolate and half white chocolate chips, or half milk chocolate and half butterscotch chips...just to keep it interesting!! You can also mix it up. Add walnuts or not. Or substitute the walnuts for pecans, peanuts, etc. It's truly the best recipe, I think.

Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies

3/4 cup shortening
1 1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 Tablespoons milk
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans (see note)

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer until well blended. Beat egg into creamed mixture. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix into creamed mixture just until blended. Stir in chips and nuts. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough three inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies or 11-13 minutes for crisp cookies. Note: If you want to omit the nuts, add an additional 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
