Corn and Tomato Saute with Vanilla Salt
The creamy sweetness of corn and vanilla pair together perfectly. So here's an easy late summer recipe to get you started with Vanilla Salt. This is also a nice, low-fat, low-calorie dish that is great for dieters or to serve as a side dish with grilled meat or fish.
Ingredients:
6 - 8 ears of white or bi-colored corn, shucked, and kernels cut off
1-1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 clove garlic chopped
2 - 3 ripe tomatoes, chopped
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Salt or to taste (or substitute a large pinch of Rain's Choice Ground Vanilla Bean Powder and sea salt)
pepper to taste
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (can substitute sherry or wine vinegar if preferred)
3 scallions, green and white parts, chopped

Instructions:
Heat oil in large sauté pan on medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until golden. Stir in corn kernels and cook for about 4 minutes. Add tomatoes plus juices and continue cooking for another 2 minutes, until they just soften, stirring occasionally. Season with Vanilla Salt (or substitution of Ground Vanilla Bean Powder) and pepper. Add vinegar, and allow to cook for about 1 minute, or until most of the liquid has evaporated. Turn off heat and stir in scallions.
Serve immediately as a hot side dish, or chill for a salad. Serves 8 as a side dish.

Never heard of vanilla salt

I never heard of it! Where did you buy it at? I'd like to get some!

It is mainly used to sprinkle on foods, like buttered corn on the cob or hot popcorn. Just experiment with it until you find something you like. Some people like it on treacle or cheese, it's just a matter of taste.

yum sounds great for a margaretta!, I have used it it peanut butter cookies too! Good Luck, I'm sure you;ll enjoy kicking it up a few notches with your new spice!!!

Wow! I too am a big foodie and recently bought some rather exotic spices. I have never heard of vanilla salt, though. Who makes it? I would probably go to their website and see if there is any information available.

I am intrigued by the whole idea and would like to know what you find out.

I have no idea what I would do with it but it definitely goes on my must buy list. Cookbook author and cooking school teacher Didi Davis sells vanilla salt, an tempting concoction of Fleur de sel sea salt and Bourbon vanilla beans. Her suggestions include for using it as seasoning include using it on foods with natural sweetness such as squash, carrots and corn and putting it on French fries or popcorn. Sounds link a nice flavor mashup to me

Vanilla salt sounds like something you'd want to put on the rim of a glass that had some kind of chocolate cocktail drink in it.

Never heard of vanilla "salt"........................
