It should be just fine! Just melt it first, allow to cool a bit and add to recipe.

be aware that at roomtemp. shortening is solid,veg oil is liquid.

What usage? Please add more info for more accurate response.
Any other type of oil (except olive) can usually be substituted in a baking recipe. But shortening cannot because of solid vs liquid. Even if you melt it it will return to solid and will not be the same.
But if you are frying then solid shortening can be substituted.

Shortening is sometimes a veg base and either way you can use it. But I use apple sauce to replace oil and it will come out so moist.
