Proofing yeast -- how long is too long?!

Question: I was about to make pizza dough, and I mixed my yeast with some water and sugar to proof it. But I got interrupted before mixing the ingredients -- the yeast/water/sugar has been sitting at room temp for a couple of hours. Can I still use it, or should I go out and get more yeast?
