I was given a cookie press for christmas, I am trying to make some, but the dough won't break loose?!
Answers: the dough won't come apart from the press and stay on the cookie sheet. What can I do?
It is a tad to thick add a touch of oil/water and try again it should be very pliable not tough if it is too tough like you overworked the dough you may have to start over.
Good Luck you can also try a different sized cutter maybe the one your using is to small for the dough consistency.
press out a whole tube like playdough and slice it into cookies
try a different shape/mold or try chilling the press with the dough in it.
add some more flour. It's too sticky. Also flour the cookie press a little bit.
try spraying the bottom with a little of Pam.... so that it doesn't stick to the press.
Add a bit more oil and use it to lube the press first before pressing cookies.
You have to coat it with flour.
put a small amount of oil (vegtable) on the press and that will help
Chill the dough AND the pan. The pan will get cold in about 5 min. in the freezer.
i had a press and it didn't impress me so i finally gave up and do it the old fashion way...good luck
Are you using a recipe especially for a cookie press? My nan has one and loves it but only recipes especially for a press work in hers - the other ones are too thick.
Sorry I cant recommend one as I try not to bake too many cookies or I eat them. Are heaps of recipes online especially for use in a cookie press if you search.
The dough needs to cling to the sheet. Try placing the press on the sheet, squeezing, with one hand and hold the sheet down with the other --squeeze, release and pull up press. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 cookies to get it to really work right. They can be frustrating!
