Best way to cause seasonings to stick to popcorn?!


Question: I pop corn in the microwave using the Presto Power Pop device. It is fantastic. I usually use 2 tbs of melted butter, but that is not enough to cause much of the seasonings like salt, ground flaxseed, seasame seed (Gomasio) to stick to the popped corn.

Any ideas to improve that don't involve chemicals like non-stick sprays?

I was going to suggest butter flavored Pam, but you mentioned no-chemicals. How about buying one of those fillable bottles that sprays like an aerosol? Then you can fill it with olive oil and spray away. I bet plain old water in a spray bottle would work.

just put the popcorn in a large bowl and shake it so the popcorn moves around

have you tried non-toxic kids glue?

try more butter

um .. you might want to use heavy amounts of butter

Seasoning usually sticks to popcorn, but to make it really stick maybe use a little bit of melted but half a stick at the max.

Personally, I don't think the butter is a good idea. So what I use is a little olive oil, which is good for you, and it helps make the seasonings stick.

Butter spray

Just be sure to put the seasoning on there as the butter is still melted and it will stick the the melted butter.

I know I'm starting to answer alot of questions, believe me it's not for points, what am I gonna get a MILLION BUCKS? ha! So here's my answer. This is simple, If you want it to stick, get one of those spray bottles with a very fine spray nozzle, sray it all over your popcorn and then toss in your seasonings,and toss toss. If that don't work , I guess I'm the only one! Good luck PS. chunks of pineapple are not concidered seasoning. Just kiddin

It sounds delicious! You may need a bit more butter or some Canola oil. I would put all ingredients in a large bag and shake it up. Not everything is going to stick no matter what you do, but it is worthe a shot!

I use olive oil. I have one of those Pump-N-Spray bottles filled with olive oil. I bought it at the grocery store and whenever the olive oil runs out, all I have to do is pour more in. It does not contain aerosol so it is environmentally safe and I know that it contains ONLY olive oil because I'm the one who filled it.

I pop the corn in an air popper and lightly spray it when it gets into the bowl. Then I sprinkle the seasoning onto the popped corn. Works like a charm.

If you're wanting larger things like flax seed or sesame seed to stick, you may need to chop them up a bit in a food processor to be small enough to adhere.

Otherwise, the only other thing I can suggest is that you boil water and sugar together to the soft ball stage, toss the popped corn with the flax seed or sesame seed in that. It would sort of be like making homemade cracker jacks. You can look up a caramel corn recipe on the internet. If you can't find one, just e-mail and I'll send the one I use.
