Gravy help!?!
Answers: ok I am very limited here with ingrediants and can't get out to the store, i was wondering if it was possible to make beef gravy from the few things I have here at home. I have condensed beef broth and corn starch for sure. Any ideas?
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
beef boullion
hot water 2 c
make roux (butter and flour) add liquid whisk
let boil
thicken
gravy!
What about the meat? If you've cooked a kind of meat that you've browned really well, and got good drippings from cooking, you should be able to use the drippings, maybe a little added water, and a flour and water mixture (to a slightly thick consistency) to stir into it to thicken. (Or you can use the corn starch, which you make into a thick mixture by adding COLD water.)
Mix three TBSP cornstarch with enough broth to make it soupy (I use broth in this step to keep flavor in my gravy). Set aside. Bring your broth to a full boil with pepper and bay leaf. Slowly stir in your cornstarch mixture and allow to boil for about 3-5 minutes to allow it time to thicken.
I have tried and tried to make gravy. But whats works great is trying to make it with your grease and flour and milk or water and then adding the packet kind that you purchase in the store for flavoring. I have also heard of people using kitchen bouquet. Not sure if it works it just adds a little flavor and coloring to the gravy. Good luck.
