I take 2 roasted garlic Triscuits and crumble up inside of 1/2 cup non fat cottage cheese. The garlic packs a good flavor punch and the texture makes it very satisfying. Very good on levels and filling too. Total Calories 150. Total fat 1.5 Total Carb 11.5 Salsa on cottage cheese is also very good.
- String cheese dipped in mustard, or your favorite low carb dressing.
- sliced turkey rolled up with boursin or chive cream cheese. Works with roast beef too. Experiment with fillings. olive tapanade, pesto, etc.
- Peanut butter and celery (use natural peanut butter with no added sugar)
- Deviled eggs (prepared without sweet relish)
- Pepperoni slices
- Cucumber slices and tuna salad
- plain yogurt (not low fat), with spelda and sliced strawberries
reduced fat cheezits.
fresh carrots with low fat ranch dip. Or any veggie.. celery, broccoli. Yogurt is also good.. and good for you. In the afternoons, I reach for a protein power bar to keep me going until dinner time.
My favorite, dill pickles.
Another thing you can do is take a English and slice it on the bias in about 1/2" thick slices. Spread on some boursin or any herbed cheese. Top with a thin slice of ham or boursin (or any herbed cheese).
Stuffed celery is good. To take it up another notch sprinkle something on the stop of your filling. For example you can top peanut butter filled celery with sesame seeds. Cream cheese with olives or toasted pignoli or walnuts. My mom's a low carber. Sometimes I add a little bit of vanilla and splenda to the cream cheese and then top with the nuts. Or pimento cheese spread. YUM!
Another thing I like is roast beef rolls. Roll up thick sliced deli roast beef with a slice of provalone. Dip in horshradish mayo.
Also, you can broil or grill some shrimp. I like to marinate mine in olive oil, lime juice and cilantro for about 1/2 hour. Then dip in chipotle mayo. Take about 1 c. of mayo and put in 1 - 2 chipotle peppers with a little bit of the adobo sauce in the blender. They are pretty spicy so be careful. They are good hot or cold.
