Any tips for stopping icing sugar from soaking into a cake once it has been dusted on?!

Question: I want to dust the cake in the morning before leaving home, but we wont be eating the cake until the afternoon.

Well the top of the cake must be completely dry for it not to soak in. Wait till it reaches room temperature to dust it. If its a moist cake, i heard dusting very lightly with cornstarch then the icing sugar helps.. haven't tried it tho.

THe only way is to refrigerate the cake and put the icing sugar dusting on prior to leaving...it will only not soak in for a few hours though. Why not just put the icing sugar on prior to serving? Bring a bag of it with you and sprinkle it on just before it is being served...really the only way it wont' be absorbed in the frosting.
