What frosting is this?!

Question: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/phot...

That's the link. The black frosting there. I've seen these types of cakes and the same frosting used (different color) and it's so smooth. I was wondering what it's called and where you could buy it. Thanks!

It's called rolled fondant. It comes in tubs and you can get it from a cake decorating store, Williams-Sonoma, and the Wilton website (great cake decorating!!) You can also make it, but it's a pain. The bought stuff is more consistent.

It is rolled fondant

Black dyed either flavored or not fondant.

I believe that is 'fondant' you can get it pretty much at any grocery store... or you could make it yourself.

Fondant is a confection used as a filling or coating for cakes, pastries, and candies or sweets. In its simplest form, it is sugar and water cooked to a point, specifically the soft-ball stage, cooled slightly, and stirred or beaten until it is an opaque mass of creamy consistency. Fondant is commonly used to decorate wedding cakes. This gives the cakes a smooth appearance.
you can buy it here

It is fondant with black food color mixed into the fondant. Fondant is white in color and I have seen chocolate fondant as well. A good brand to buy is called Satin Ice. Try Kerekes (bakedeco.com) or do a search for Satin Ice. If you are going to try & use fondant, read up on how to use it and what tools you will need to give your cake a "smooth" finish.
