If it's gammon steak, just grill for 2-5 minutes, deapending on thickness or how u prefer it (medium, rare). A great recipe is gammon, fried egg and chips which is lovely. Also, if you like something different, if you have a roast, slow cook it in the oven at 180oc for about 2hours and then for the last ten minutes, drizzle a bit of honey over the top which gives great flavour and texture to your meat.

heat

on heat?

i belive it is up to preference but you can roast it or boil it.

1 eating apple, peeled, cored and diced
30g/1?oz flour
500ml/18fl oz dry cider
2 tbsp piccalilli
1 tsp honey
4 sage leaves
1 tsp Dijon mustard

150ml/5?fl oz meat or vegetable stock

4 large potatoes, quartered
2 large carrots, cut into chunks
1 tsp sugar
2 garlic cloves, peeled
2 tbsp olive oil
handful of chopped parsley
? lemon, juice only
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method
1. Place a large flameproof casserole dish on a low heat and gently melt the butter with the olive oil.
2. Add the gammon steaks and seal until golden on both sides (about 10 minutes). Remove the gammon and place to one side.
3. Now add the garlic, onion and apple to the casserole and cook until the onion is translucent. Add the flour and cook for one minute.
4. Add the cider, bring to boil and reduce by half. Then add the piccalilli, honey, sage leaves and mustard, and cook for five minutes. Season.
5. Now put the gammon steaks back into the casserole, squeeze in the lemon juice and pour in the stock. Add another good pinch of salt and pepper, cover and simmer for a further 20-30 minutes.
6. For the mash, half-fill a pot with water (about 2 litres/3 pints 10fl oz), add salt, cover and bring to the boil.
7. Add the potatoes and carrots to the boiling water, together with the sugar and garlic. Boil for 20 minutes on a moderate heat until the vegetables are tender.
8. Drain and mash vigorously, mixing in the olive oil, chopped parsley, a squeeze of lemon juice, and seasoning to taste.
9. Return to a low heat and stir gently for 2-3 minutes. Serve the mash with the gammon.

Before answering where in U.K. are you ?? I won't go through a recipe if you are an american amused with a new word. It's almost impossible to get a true Gammon in the colonies.E-mail me

If it is a joint of gammon, put it in a pan of water with a little milk added (to absorb unwanted salt) and let it simmer for about an hour, depending on its size. Then wrap it in tin foil that you have smeared with honey and ground cloves and put it in the oven to bake for the rest of its cooking time. A temperature of about 180 celsius. If it has thick rind (skin) around it, take it off between the boiling and the baking and you will have a nicely glazed joint at the end of it. Allow 25min to the pound and 25 mins more.
Enjoy it!
