i think it depends on teh dinner party, if it is really fancy id go with the pasta with cream sauce

if its a relaxed party with some friends id make the soup its filling and its easy and not at too fancy

here are my favorites

id also make some sandwiches to accompany the soup

my favorite is roast beef heres how i make them

cover the french bread with slices of provalone and or munster cheese tost the bread just enough so that the the outside of the bread crisps and the cheese melts then top with the roast beef, spinach some green onion and tomato
and if you want you can serve with some kettle cooked chips but yyou already have the soup so you'll be good if you dont

oh and serve it with red wine if you can drink, or ice tea if you can or ginger ale

try this one..

Pechugas de Pollo con Salsa de Nueces - Chicken Breasts with Walnut Sauce

INGREDIENTS:
4-6 Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts
5 oz. Chicken Pate
1/3 cup Raisins
1 Clove Garlic
1/2 cup Walnuts
2 Sprigs Parsley
1 White or Yellow Onion
1 Tsp. Flour
1 cup Chicken Broth
2 Tbsp Tomato Sauce
2 Tbsp Brandy
Salt and Pepper
PREPARATION:
Serves 4-6

Prepare Chicken and Dish
Rinse and pat dry the chicken breasts. Oil the bottom of a large (13” x 9”) glass baking dish. Position rack in middle of oven. Heat the oven to 325F degrees.

Stuff the Breasts and Bake
Coarsely chop the raisins and mince the garlic.

In a small mixing bowl, mash the chicken pate and add the raisins, garlic and 1 sprig of parsley. Add the 1 tbsp of brandy. Mix well.

Lay a breast out on a cutting board or plate, cut side up. Using a teaspoon spread the pate mixture over the breast. Roll the breast up with pate inside and secure it using 1-2 toothpicks. Place in baking dish. Repeat for each breast. Drizzle breasts with a small amount of olive oil or brush on with a pastry brush. Sprinkle with salt. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and place in oven on rack. Bake for approximately 45 minutes. Check for doneness.

Prepare the Sauce
While the chicken is roasting, peel and chop the onion. Finely chop the remaining sprig of parsley and set aside. Place walnuts in food processor or grinder and grind finely.

In a medium size frying pan, sauté the onion in a few teaspoons of olive oil over medium heat for approximately 8 minutes. Sprinkle in the flour and stir constantly. Add the tomato sauce and continue to stir for 1 minute. Stir in the chicken broth gradually. Add the rest of the chopped parsley and the other tbsp of brandy. Cook on low heat until the sauce is reduced and it thickens.

Add Sauce to Chicken and Serve
When done, remove chicken from oven and place on individual plates, spooning sauce over the top of each breast. Serve with fried potatoes.

If it's cold where you are today make a good hearty soup with hot sandwiches and a big salad..it's our favorite for cold days.
Our favorite soup is vegetable beef..
1 lb browned and drained hamburger meat, leave it in small chunks
2 frozen pkg of mixed vegetables ( or 3 cans drained)
2 chopped and peeled large potatoes (any kind works)
1 large onion chopped ( white or yellow works)
1 chopped summer squash
1 chopped zucchini
1 stalk celery chopped
2 cans of petite diced tomato's
and 3 cups of water
after meat is browned add all ingredients to large pot bring to boil and let simmer for 1 hour
salt and pepper to taste
for good sandwiches to go with it..
you need 2 pieces of bread for each person plus maybe two extra sandwiches for the really hungry
on a large cookie sheet , place bread that has been covered in Olive oil on cookie sheet with olive oil side down add to each slice one slice of provolone cheese and one slice of smoked ham..cook in oven on 350 till cheese is melting, or bottom side down is starting to brown..pull out and put two slices together to make one full sand which.. enjoy

I have a GREAT spagetti recipe with an optional topping idea! And there's an optional buttered noodles recipe-type thing, too!

Okay, your ingredients will be:
Your choice of noodles, such as bowties, or regular spagetti
Hunt's meat sauce (spagetti sauce; size you need it)
1 lb. hamburger meat
*optional* blend of parmesan, asiago, ect. cheeses
*optional* 1 bag of cheddar jack cheese (Kraft)

Directions:
Brown meat in skillet/pan as you cook the noodles in a pot until they are not crunchy anymore. After the noodles are done cooking, drain them and put them back in the pot. By now you should have already browned the meat. Pour the meat sauce into the skillet/pan with the meat. Mix the spagetti noodles and meat sauce together, but if you want to, you can save some noodles for my buttered noodles!

Buttered noodles: (very simple)
Just add garlic and butter to the noodles!!!!

Topping:
Add the cheeses to the spagetti and heat for 30 seconds for a great, cheesey taste!!!

My suggestion for sides would be:
Corn and green beans with garlic bread or breadsticks

My suggestions for drinks:
Diet Cherry Coke or Cherry Coke
Diet Lime Coke or Lime Coke
Pepsi/ Diet Pepsi
Red Diamond Sweet/Unsweet tea
Ice water with/without lemon

A dessert recipe:

Ingredients:
Pilsbury or your favorite brand of chocolate cake mix
Pilsbury or your favorite brand of chocolate icing/frosting
Chocolate chips
Chocolate shavings (optional)
Hot fudge (VERY optional =D)

Directions:
Bake the chocolate cake in a pan of your choice, and after it is done, let it cool for about ten or twenty minutes. Frost it. If you are going to use hot fudge, pour a small amount onto the cake, making sure it doesn't go over the edges. Add chocolate chips and, optionally, chocolate shavings, and WA-LA!!! You have Doodle's Great Chocolate Cake!!!!

Warning: cake is very very VERY rich!

Hope I helped!!!
